A clever mum has shared her amazing hack for making “stiff, crusty” towels like brand new again – and it’s going viral.
The savvy technique sees you replace fabric softener with another key liquid when cleaning “sandpaper” towels in the washing machine, resulting in “spa-quality” bath sheets.
Posting on TikTok, the mum starts by placing her old towels in the washing machine and setting it to a hot cycle, at 40c to 60c.

She then adds liquid laundry detergent as normal – but instead of adding fabric softener, the mum suggests adding half a cup of white vinegar.
Then once the washing cycle is finished, she leaves the towels to air dry on the line until they’re slightly damp before placing them in the dryer.
The result? Amazing, as-new towels!
“The vinegar breaks down the residue from detergents, leaving towels soft and fresh,” wrote the mum, who goes by the name Mama_Mila_ on TikTok.
“Level up your self care routine with spa-worthy towels.”
Fans say they’re now keen to give the simple hack a go.
“My towels feel like sandpaper and I was thinking just to throw them away, they feel so gross,” said one. “Giving this a go!”
Added another: “Trying this tonight!”
