Shock pics: Truckies forced to shower in servo squalor

WA Senator Glenn Sterle is hoping he’s had another win for truckies in his campaign to clean up the nation’s sub-standard rest stop amenities.

After receiving these shocking pics of the conditions at the Caltex service station in Gilgandra, NSW, he immediately got on the phone to management to voice his concern.

“They agree that these facilities are certainly not up to standard and have organised for commercial cleaners to come in as soon as possible.

“I want to thank Caltex for getting on top of this and for coming back to me so quickly,” Sterle said on his Facebook page

“It is disgraceful that our essential truckies have to put up with this while they are out there on the job.”

Sterle said he’s received reports that truck drivers have been refused access to shower facilities at the Shell service station in Gunnedah, NSW.

Big Rigs has also received calls and messages from distraught drivers voicing similar concerns in recent days.

“I have been in touch with their management this morning and they are currently conducting a review into this,” Sterle added.

UPDATE – 12.07pm

Sterle has just received a statement from Shell head office regarding the Gunnedah shower issue.

“Due to the removal of the lockdown in Gunnedah, NSW, Shell Gunnedah will be reopening our shower facilities effective Saturday 11-9-21 ata 12.01am.

“We apologise for any frustration that may have caused. We will continue to support our freight industry, offering dining and toilet facilities in a Covid safe environment.”
